Blogger is unblocked at work, so I'm back early! We just got a critical win against Michigan and suddenly the landscape looks a lot brighter for us. 20 wins is a big milestone and 8-6 in the Big Ten feels awfully good. Our RPI has soared to 32 which is off the bubble, so I'd say we're in for sure if the season ended today. Our Pomeroy rating is up to #25 so I'd say we should see some votes in the polls if we stay on track. Here is an updated look at the pack in the Big Ten and what record they are on pace for.
3. Indiana 8-5 (10-6)
4. Illinois 8-6 (9-7)
5. Iowa 8-6 (9-7)
6. MSU 7-6 (9-7)
7. Purdue 6-7 (9-7)
8. Michigan 6-7 (7-9)
Wow! What a logjam at 9-7. That's right on the bubble. As far as NCAAs go, 9-7 would put MSU in, Iowa out, and Purdue and Illinois waiting to see how they do in the BTT. How would the seeding work if Iowa loses @PSU and beats Illinois?
IL = 2-3 vs 9-7 teams, 0-1 vs OSU, 0-1 vs Wisc
IA = 3-2 vs 9-7 teams, 0-1 vs OSU, 0-2 vs Wisc
PU = 2-1 vs 9-7 teams, 0-2 vs OSU, 0-1 vs Wisc
MS = 2-3 vs 9-7 teams, 0-2 vs OSU, 1-1 vs Wisc?
so Purdue gets the 4 seed with a 2-1 group record, Iowa is the 5 seed with the 3-2 record, IL is the 6 seed with the 0-1 record against OSU, and MSU is the 7 seed.
The tiebreakers can be found at this site.
All that aside, the most important thing is to get some revenge against Penn State this weekend. I'm planning another entry tomorrow to discuss our last game against Penn State and the ensuing consequences.
